Federal Judge Rules Trump’s Sanctuary City Order as Unconstitutional

On Monday, November 20, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California blocked the efforts of President Trump and the Department of Justice to withhold federal grant funding based upon a locality’s “sanctuary city” status.  The ruling nullifies a White Order Executive Order from January that was intended to discourage and crack down on local governments that refused to comply with certain requests from the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to question and detain individuals based upon their immigration status.… Read More

Attorney General: Municipalities May Lose Hundreds of Millions in Federal Grant Over Local Immigration Policies. DOJ Sets December 8 Compliance Deadline.

On Wednesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions sent letters to 29 local governments considered “sanctuary cities,” warning of a December 8, 2017, deadline to end policies that prevent information-sharing between local governments and Department of Homeland Security agencies, like Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE).  The letters demand that local governments adhere to federal law or risk losing hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grants.Read More
