Michael K. Ligorano, a member of the firm, focuses his practice on immigration and land use law.
Mike is the head of the Norris McLaughlin & Marcus Immigration Law Group and a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. The emphases of the Immigration Law Group are the needs of businesses, both small and multi-national entities, to gain access to, and remain in, the USA. The Group assists investors who wish to either start businesses or establish a branch of an overseas business in the USA. Those seeking to use their investment in the USA as a vehicle to immigrate to the USA are also of special interest to Mike and the Immigration Law Group. In the area of real estate and land use, Mike assists developers, construction companies, major corporations, and small businesses in the evaluation of undeveloped land and all phases of the development process. Mike also handles zoning-related disputes, denial of land use permits, exclusionary zoning disputes, and other issues arising out of the planning and zoning processes. Mike has represented governmental entities at the municipal and count level having served as planning/zoning board and municipal attorney for over twenty years before limited his practice to the land use needs of the private sector.
Mike has been actively involved in the local business community, most notably in the Hunterdon County area. He regularly speaks to local business organizations on a variety of immigration and land use topics. He has authored a number of articles on these topics, as well. In 2010, Mike launched a blog entitled, "Ligorano's INs & OUTs of Immigration," located at www.immigrationblogus.com. It provides current informative content directed at those in the business community who have the need to understand the constantly changing and complex path for people to come into (and, if need be, remain in) the USA for business or investment purposes.
Mike was recently awarded the Diocese of Metuchen St. Thomas Moore Award for 2009. He was also acknowledged with a Professional Service Award for his individual contribution to Habitat for Humanity. Mike was selected by The Arc of New Jersey as the statewide winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award. He is listed in the current editions of Marquis’ Who’s Who in the World, Who's Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law.
