Bridgewater, NJ (January 12, 2009) – Fernando M. Pinguelo, a Member of the Bridgewater law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., will be speaking at the Meritas Latin American and Caribbean Regional Meeting on Friday, January 23, 2009, at the Hotel Quinta Real in Guadalajara, Mexico. Pinguelo will speak about how the proliferation of emails and other electronic documents and the laws that regulate those documents affect both domestic and international companies. He will highlight legal trends affecting electronic data and how companies must adopt document retention policies to comply with these new legal obligations.

Meritas is one of the world’s largest and most respected legal resources - an integrated, non-profit alliance of more than 170 independent law firms located in over 60 countries. This global alliance consists of over 6,500 experienced lawyers from around the world who deliver localized legal service of the highest quality on a fully coordinated basis. Pinguelo is a Fellow of the Meritas Leadership Institute.

Pinguelo, co-Chair of the firm’s Response to Electronic Discovery and Information Group, devotes his practice to complex litigation with an emphasis on business disputes, electronic discovery, and media and employment matters in federal and state courts. A leader in the emerging area of electronic discovery, Fernando works with businesses to develop strategies to manage business and legal issues related to electronic discovery and information technology. He recognizes the evolving complexities of the business environment and helps businesses comply with the broad array of laws that regulate document management obligations.

Notably, Pinguelo was involved in New Jersey’s first case addressing its new e-discovery rule amendments, and has lectured numerous times on the topic including at the Judicial College which provides judges with a wide range of academic programs to keep abreast of developments in the law. Fernando designed a state-of-the-art electronic discovery law course and teaches one of only a handful of such courses in the country at Seton Hall University School of Law.

Pinguelo regularly publishes articles and lectures on a variety of topics including electronic discovery and information, entertainment law, employment, and contracts. He has appeared on television as a legal commentator on various high-profile trials, and has been quoted and cited in newspaper and magazine reports about cases he has handled.
