Jeralyn Lawrence Participates on Panel Discussing Collaborative Divorce
Bridgewater, NJ (June 7, 2010) – Jeralyn L. Lawrence, a Member of the Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., will participate in a program entitled “Collaborative Divorce: An Essential Primer for All Family Law Practitioners,” sponsored by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE). The seminar will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza in Edison, New Jersey.
The often bitter and costly nature of divorce proceedings has led many family law professionals to explore new avenues like collaborative divorce for resolving dissolution cases. Started in Minnesota, collaborative divorce utilizes lawyers from both sides, as well as clients and neutral professionals, in a cooperative and joint effort to resolve differences in divorce. The process is client driven and uses a number of negotiation and settlement techniques to achieve the best outcome for both parties. Clients and lawyers agree not to initiate any litigation while the process is underway and there are guidelines for participation, withdrawal and any subsequent litigation.
The seminar will teach family law practitioners about the innovative process of collaborative divorce, why it is growing in popularity, and how it can help their family law clients. The panel will cover the following topics: What Collaborative Divorce Is and What It Is Not; Why Use Collaborative Divorce - How it Differs From Other Alternate Forms of Dispute Resolution; The Role of the Attorney and Ethical Issues; The Role of the Financial Expert; The Role of the Mental Health Expert and Other Specialists; Case Studies/Models; and The Growth of Collaborative Divorce Nationwide. The program is being offered for Continuing Legal Education credit for New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, and Matrimonial Law Certification. To register or for more information, visit the NJICLE website at www.njicle.com.
