Muller Addresses Challenges Posed by Cybercrimes

Bridgewater, NJ (February 25, 2011) – Bradford W. Muller, an Associate with Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., will speak at panel discussion entitled “Virtual Crimes - Real Damages: Challenges Posed by Cybercrimes in the U.S. and Efforts to Combat Cybercriminals.” The discussion is hosted by the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology and will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at The University of Virginia School of Law. The discussion is presented in conjunction with the Journal’s publication of a comprehensive primer on cybercrimes in the United States and efforts to combat cybercriminals that includes a fifty-state and federal cyber law and proposed legislation survey co-written by Muller.

“We hear about cybercrime everywhere, whether it be Wikileaks ‘hacktivists’ disrupting major corporate websites, Foreign-based cyber-spies cracking into top secret government files, or enterprising home-grown thieves who troll the internet and ATM locations for unsuspecting consumers and empty bank accounts into their own pockets,” stated Muller. “But do we know what’s being done and what more could be done to address these threats? We should.”

The topics of discussion will include profiling the cybercriminal, an analysis of the various methods used by cybercriminals, a discussion of the state and federal responses to cybercrime, and a presentation on “Best Practices” that businesses and governments can adopt to protect confidential client data and avoid potential ethical issues. This program features experts from the legal and IT communities and the government who will discuss these threats, who the hackers are, and what their methods are for attacking businesses and governments.

Muller, a member of the firm's Litigation and Internet Law Groups, has been published in scholarly journals on numerous topics, including cloud computing, real estate, and appellate practice. Most recently, he co-authored “Virtual Crimes – Real Damages: Challenges Posed By Cybercrimes in the U.S. and Efforts to Combat Cybercriminals,” which was published in Spring 2011 by the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology. Prior to joining Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, Muller served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Anthony J. Parrillo, New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division. Muller earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Seton Hall Law School, and graduated summa cum laude from Seton Hall University. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, and the District of Columbia.
