Annmarie Simeone Named Second Vice President of Resource Center of Somerset

Bridgewater, NJ (February 21, 2012) – Annmarie Simeone, a Member of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., has been named Second Vice President for the Resource Center of Somerset, Inc., a private, non-profit agency serving victims of domestic abuse in Somerset County.

The mission of the Resource Center of Somerset is to end domestic abuse and empower victims by providing protection, education, and resources to victims and their families; and growing and adapting services to meet the changing needs of its clients. It has advocated and provided services for more than 30 years. Empowerment and self-determination constitute the core of the agency’s values, which permeate every aspect of the services offered to victims of abuse and their children. Other values include confidentiality and privacy, integrity and consistency, as well as respect for individuals’ diversity and beliefs. The agency provides not only emergency shelter, but also legal advocacy; outreach counseling; community education; volunteer Domestic Violence Response Teams, working with local police departments; and transitional housing.

Simeone, a resident of Woodbridge, concentrates her practice on labor and employment litigation. She has a wide range of experience in state and federal courts, as well as in alternative dispute resolution venues, primarily defending management in claims made by employees under state and federal employment laws, including claims for sexual harassment, race, gender, national origin, and disability discrimination. She also has defended employers in cases alleging constructive discharge, wrongful termination, retaliation, breach of express or implied employment contracts, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, and violations of restrictive covenants. Her work includes the defense of corporations, as well as of individual officers, directors, and employees, addressing both issues unique to small businesses and challenges faced by larger companies.

In addition, Simeone provides advice and counseling to human resource professionals and in-house counsel with respect to a wide range of employment issues, including family and medical leave, employee discipline and terminations, disability accommodations, layoff issues such as WARN compliance, and the negotiation and design of severance packages. She also drafts employee manuals and employment-related policies and procedures.

Simeone earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University in 1993, and her B.A., summa cum laude, from St. John’s University in 1990. She is admitted to the New Jersey Bar, and is a member of the New Jersey State and Middlesex County Bar Associations, as well as the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey. She is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
