Hlavac returns to “Tools for Success” as Keynote Speaker
Allentown, PA (April 18, 2012) – George C. Hlavac, Chairman of the Labor and Employment Group of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., will be the keynote speaker in a presentation at the 7th Annual “Tools for Success” Medical Practice Management Conference on Thursday, April 19, at the Villanova Conference Center in Radnor, Pennsylvania. The presentation, Understanding Unemployment Compensation Liability and How to Avoid It, will provide an overview and explanation of the unemployment compensation system and provide practical tips and guidance with respect to terminating employees and defending unemployment compensation claims.
The conference will focus on medical practices coping with changes in the healthcare environment. Roundtable discussions and breakout sessions will address concerns with medical practice management. Other sessions include Opportunity in Acronyms – HIT; HIE; PQRS; ACOs; PCMS; ICD10 & more…, Medical Professional Liability Market Update, and Navigating the Information Superhighway. “The healthcare industry has seen a lot of changes recently, which we fully expect to continue into the future. This event focuses on the proper management of a medical practice in this evolving industry. I hope those who attend my presentation will realize how properly drafted and consistently enforced employment policies and procedures can help their practice avoid potential unemployment compensation liability,” said Hlavac.
As chair of the Pennsylvania office’s Labor and Employment Group, Hlavac focuses his practice exclusively on labor and employment law. He regularly handles traditional labor law matters and employment-related litigation and also counsels employers of all sizes with respect to workplace issues, such as discrimination, harassment, workplace accommodations, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, safety and health, employment contracts, noncompetition and confidentiality agreements, employee handbooks, unemployment compensation, union avoidance, collective bargaining negotiations and agreements, grievance arbitrations, and unfair labor practice charges.
He has authored numerous articles and is a frequent lecturer at workshops, conferences, and seminars with respect to a wide variety of labor and employment law issues.
Hlavac is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley. He joined the Red Cross Board in September of 2003 and has previously served as the Board’s Vice Chair and Chair, and is presently a member of the Executive Committee. He also volunteers as a career counselor for the Minsi Trails Council Learning for Life program, is a soccer coach for the Parkland Area Soccer Club and is a football and baseball coach for the South Parkland Youth Association.
Hlavac earned his B.A., magna cum laude, in 1991 from Franklin & Marshall College and his J.D., with honors, in 1994 from George Washington University. While at George Washington University’s National Law Center, Hlavac was a member of the George Washington University Law Review.
