Jeralyn Lawrence Moderates Session at NJSBA Annual Meeting and Convention

Bridgewater, NJ (May 1, 2012) - Jeralyn L. Lawrence, a Member of the Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., organized and will moderate a session, entitled “Alimony: Length and Amount,” hosted by the Family Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) at the NJSBA Annual Meeting and Convention. The meeting takes place Wednesday, May 16, to Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City.

On May 17, from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m., Lawrence will lead the hands-on practical seminar. A panel of experts will be given a fact pattern and case information statement and will discuss how they would rule on alimony, both in length and amount. The illustrious panel will include the Hon. Catherine I. Enright, JSC; the Hon. Donald A. Kessler, JSC; the Hon. Hany A. Mawla, JSC; the Hon. Peter J. Melchionne, JSC; the Hon. Anthony F. Picheca Jr., JSC; the Hon. John E. The mission of the Family Law Section is to maintain and improve the practice of family law by interacting effectively with the family courts and by informing members of current legislation and regulations. The New Jersey State Bar Association serves, protects, fosters and promotes the personal and professional interests of its members, serving as the voice of New Jersey attorneys. It fosters professionalism and pride in the profession and the NJSBA and provides educational opportunities to New Jersey attorneys to enhance the quality of legal services and the practice of law.

A resident of Watchung, Lawrence devotes her practice to matrimonial, divorce and family law, and collaborative law. A Family/Divorce Mediator and certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Law Attorney, she has worked with clients whose needs lie in all areas of matrimonial and family law, including divorce litigation and mediation, custody and parenting time, alimony and child support, separation and property settlement agreements, adoption and guardianship, domestic partnership matters under the Domestic Partnership Act, domestic violence and sexual abuse, and palimony. She takes great pride and care in helping her clients make it through these difficult personal matters.

To complement the breadth of her matrimonial, divorce and family law practice, Lawrence involves herself in professional engagements outside the firm. She frequently serves as a speaker and panelist at divorce and family law programs and seminars, and has been admitted to the rosters of Mediators for Economic Aspects of Family Law Cases and of Custody and Parenting Time Cases for Somerset County. She devotes time to serve as an attorney volunteer at the Resource Center for Women and Their Families in Somerset County.

Lawrence serves on the Executive Committee of the NJSBA Family Law Section, is Co-Chair of its Legislative Committee, and sits on several other committees, including the Annual Retreat Committee. She is an Associate Managing Editor of the New Jersey Family Lawyer, the official publication of the Family Law Section. She serves as Second Vice President of the Somerset County Bar Association. She serves on the Board of Managers of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the preeminent family law association in America. Lawrence was appointed to the Somerset County Domestic Violence Working Group as a representative of the Somerset County Family Law Section. She is a member of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association, the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators, and the NMM Women’s Forum Steering Committee.

Lawrence was honored as one of New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business in 2011 for her dedication and contributions to New Jersey business and community. She was also selected as the 2009 Kean University Distinguished Alumna, the highest award for alumni, by the Kean University Alumni Association. She was honored as an Outstanding Woman in Somerset County for 2008 by the Somerset County Commission On the Status of Women. She was selected by her peers as one of New Jersey’s Top Ten matrimonial lawyers under the age of 40, and recognized by the New Jersey Law Journal as one of 40 accomplished and promising attorneys in the State of New Jersey under the age of 40. For several years, she has been listed among New Jersey’s Super Lawyers, which rates her among the top 5 percent of New Jersey lawyers. She was also selected as one of the Top 100 New Jersey Super Lawyers, as well as Top 50 Female New Jersey Super Lawyers. In 2007, Lawrence received the Young Lawyers Division’s Professional Achievement Award and the Annual Legislative Recognition Award from the New Jersey State Bar Association. In recognition of her valuable contributions, Lawrence has received Certificates of Appreciation from 1998 to 2010 from the Somerset County Superior Court.
