Edward J. Easterly Speaks at Annual Conference for National Association of Colleges and Employers
Allentown, PA (June 18, 2012) – Edward J. Easterly, an Associate with Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., (formerly Tallman Hudders & Sorrentino), presented “New Laws Facing Higher Education” and “Legal Issues in Internships” at the National Association of Colleges and Employers Conference and Expo, which was held from June 12-15, 2012, at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. In “New Laws Facing Higher Education,” he examined the scope of the College Opportunity Affordability Act (COAA) and the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA). He analyzed how the COAA and HEOA impact students and discussed how to comply with the requirements of this legislation.
“Career services professionals must keep up with changes in legislation that affect their students and how the career center operates,” said Easterly.
Easterly, a resident of Easton, practices before federal and state courts and labor and employment agencies, representing clients in matters related to the Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Pennsylvania Labor Relations Act, and the Pennsylvania Humans Relations Act. He assists various clients with their labor and employment matters including universities, private businesses, municipalities, utilities, manufacturers, and non-profit organizations.
Easterly also advises clients regarding enforceability of employment agreements, wage and hour matters, discrimination policies, and covenants not to compete. He is fully versed in drafting and revising employee handbooks/manuals, as well as employment and separation agreements. Along with his fellow members of the Labor & Employment Group, Easterly presents training programs to clients regarding many of these same issues as well as harassment and social media in the workplace.
He frequently authors articles for local and national publications as well as law alerts on new labor and employment law matters, and presents programs on these subjects to various audiences.
Easterly serves as a board member on the Muhlenberg Board of Associates. He is a member of the KidsPeace Golf Tournament Committee, where he served as Co-Chair from 2009 to 2010.
Easterly earned his J.D., cum laude, from Villanova University School of Law in 2006 and his B.A. from Muhlenberg College in 2003.
