Charles Smith to Speak at Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s Course on Real Estate Basics
Allentown, PA (August 20, 2012) – Charles F. Smith, Jr., a Member of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., will address two topics – the role of an attorney at closing and the short sale process – at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI) seminar, “Real Estate 101.” The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. August 23 at the PBI Conference Center in Mechanicsburg.
“The ability to anticipate issues that will or may arise at the closing table is a very valuable skill. The client should have a positive experience at closing, and a prepared attorney can make that happen. In addition, the bottoming out of the real estate market has led to record numbers of mortgage defaults and foreclosures. Knowing the nuts and bolts of short sales is essential for real estate practitioners in today’s economic climate,” said Smith.
The PBI, the continuing legal education arm of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, is a fully self-supporting, non-profit organization that strives to provide Pennsylvania lawyers with high-quality information that is timely, practical, and cost effective. Programs are taught and books are written by practicing lawyers, judges, and law professors, who are widely recognized as leading experts in their fields, and who have proven their abilities as teachers, public speakers, and writers. These professionals generously contribute their time and expertise.
Smith, a resident of Upper Saucon Township, has 24 years of practical legal experience. He practices primarily in the areas related to real estate, land use/development, banking and financial services, and commercial litigation. He represents buyers in acquiring real estate and financial institutions in preparing loan documentation. Smith has handled the acquisition of over 20 large commercial self storage facilities for his clients. He represents title companies in title insurance claims and litigation, and manages ABE Settlement Services, LLC, the Firm's title insurance agency. In addition, he is an Assistant County Solicitor with the Law Department of Lehigh County, focusing primarily on county real estate matters.
Smith is a member of the Pennsylvania Self Storage Association and frequently lectures on self storage-related issues.
He earned his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law in 1988 and his B.A. from Lafayette College in 1985. An active alumnus, he serves as President of Lafayette’s class of 1985. He was born in Philadelphia in 1963.
