Jeralyn L. Lawrence Granted Fellowship Into The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

Bridgewater, NJ (November 2, 2009) – Jeralyn L. Lawrence, a Member of Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A. and its Matrimonial Group, was granted Fellowship into the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML). Fellowship in AAML represents both recognition of substantial achievements in family law and a commitment to the highest standards of practice in the field.

“We are very proud of Jeralyn and her many accomplishments and contributions to our firm and community. This is a high achievement and an acknowledgement of the stature she has earned among matrimonial attorneys in this state,” said John J. Eagan, Managing Partner of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus.

The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers was formed in 1962 by a small group of nationally-known matrimonial lawyers to “encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the cause of matrimonial law to the end that the welfare of the family and society be preserved.” Today, the Academy is recognized as the pre-eminent family law association in America with more than 1,500 Fellows. Fellows of the Academy concentrate their practices in family and matrimonial law, a specialty that involves all aspects of pre-marriage counseling and agreements, legal separation, divorce, annulment, unmarried cohabitation, child custody, property valuation and division, and support. By demonstrating the highest standards of matrimonial practice, Fellows of the Academy have set the standard for the rest of the matrimonial bar and have helped improve the quality of family law practice throughout this country for attorneys and litigants alike.

A resident of Watchung, Lawrence devotes her practice to matrimonial, divorce and family law, and collaborative law. Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Law Attorney and a Family/Divorce Mediator, she has worked with clients whose needs lie in all areas of matrimonial and family law, including divorce litigation and mediation, custody and parenting time issues, alimony and child support, separation and property settlement agreements, adoption and guardianship advice, domestic partnership matters under the Domestic Partnership Act, domestic violence and sexual abuse, and palimony. She takes great pride and care in helping her clients make it through these difficult personal matters.

To complement the breadth of her matrimonial, divorce and family law practice, Lawrence involves herself in various professional engagements outside the firm. She frequently serves as a speaker and panelist at divorce and family law programs and seminars, and she has been admitted to the rosters of Mediators for Economic Aspects of Family Law Cases and of Custody and Parenting Time Cases for Somerset County. She spends her spare time as an attorney volunteer at the Resource Center for Women and Their Families in Somerset County. Lawrence is Trustee of the Somerset County Bar Association and Somerset County Bar Foundation. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the Somerset County Bar Association. She was appointed to the Somerset County Domestic Violence Working Group, as a representative of the Somerset County Family Law Section. Lawrence also chairs the Mock Trial Committee, which is responsible for the Somerset County Mock Trial Competition, an annual competition of high schools to represent the county in the Regional Competitions. She is currently a member of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators. She is also a member of the NMM Women’s Forum Steering Committee.

Recently, Lawrence was selected as the 2009 Kean University Distinguished Alumna, the preeminent award for alumni, by the Kean University Alumni Association.
