Keya C. Denner, a Member of the law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., will speak at the Somerset County Business Partnership Business Builders Breakfast, “Sexual Harassment & Rules of the Modern Workplace,” on Tuesday, February 27, 8:00 – 9:30 a.m., at the Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster.

The “#metoo” movement is here to stay.  In just over four months, it has become a game changer in the field of sexual harassment and social norms in the American workplace.  Not only have many prominent individuals and their employers already been affected, it is only a matter of time before this powerful social movement takes a firm root in all businesses, both small and large.

This seminar will explore the legal framework and best practices that all employers must understand in order to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace, and discuss the incentive for businesses to create a happier, healthier, and more profitable workplace that results from a harassment-free environment.

Denner devotes his practice to labor and employment law and executive compensation.  As a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Group, he represents both small and large employers in matters ranging from breach of employment agreements and restrictive covenants to discrimination, disability, and wage and hour violations under federal and state laws.  He has appeared before state and federal administrative agencies throughout the country, and regularly represents management in arbitration proceedings.  A significant part of his practice is devoted to helping his clients avoid litigation, by training management and human resources personnel on best practices and drafting policies and agreements to ensure compliance with the latest laws and regulations in the field.  Denner also advises clients during union organizing campaigns and represents clients in representation and unfair labor practice charge proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board.

As a member of the firm’s Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits Group, Denner represents senior-level employees of public and private companies in negotiating their employment packages and associated agreements, at both the commencement of the employment relationship and at termination.

Denner was recognized by the New Jersey Law Journal as a 2017 New Leader of the Bar for his impressive accomplishments and great promise in the legal profession.  For the past three years, he has been selected for inclusion on the Super Lawyers Employment & Labor list of New Jersey Rising Stars.  Denner is host of the Somerset County Business Partnership’s Human Resources Roundtable Group, and is Co-Chair of the Labor and Employment Committee of the Somerset County Bar Association.  He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Community Visiting Nurse Association, where he is Chair of the By-Laws Committee and a member of the Personnel Committee, and is a member of the Personnel Committee for the YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge, and South Amboy.  A resident of Boonton, Denner earned his J.D., cum laude, from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2004 and his B.A., cum laude, from Boston University in 2000.
